Stuck on PHP 7.4, 8.0 or 8.1 after the PHP2Shell emergency on 21 October? I am taking on a small number of PHP upgrade projects right now. I can move your full PHP project from an old version to the latest secure version as soon as possible, solo or alongside your team. If you need a team, I can help with that as well. Email me at bhadanirohit1@gmail.com and I will reply the same day.

The reason I am opening this now is the pair of critical flaws PHP fixed on 21 October, CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619, both rated 9.2 and called PHP2Shell. According to the PHP security advisory and CISA's alert on the same day, every PHP version from 5.4 through 8.5.11 is affected and only 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36 and 8.2.35 are fixed.

PHP 8.1 and earlier get no official binary fix. That leaves roughly 884,000 internet hosts on end of life branches with no patch, as BleepingComputer reported. If your project is on 7.4, 8.0 or 8.1, the fix is not a package update. It is a version upgrade.

What does the upgrade actually involve?

Most teams think upgrade means changing one line in composer.json. The real work is in the code that breaks and in the worker that must be restarted.

For a typical WordPress, Magento, Laravel or custom app, I check every host that serves PHP, including php-fpm, mod_php, FrankenPHP and LiteSpeed, and note the exact version per pool. I then map the smallest fixed branch you can target, usually 8.3.36 or 8.2.35, or 8.4.27 and 8.5.12 if you can move further.

Next I run the project on the target in a disposable environment. The failures I usually see are predictable: removed functions, changed type handling, stricter deprecations, and dependencies that pin an older PHP.

I patched a lab pool running php-fpm 8.3.35 and 8.2.34 on Ubuntu the week of the release. The package update took seconds. The restart is what made the fix active.

Why should you upgrade now instead of waiting?

The disclosure window is short. Details leaked on 20 October, the PHP team moved the release from 22 October to 21 October, and Cloudflare deployed WAF rules the same day. That buys time but does not replace the patch. According to Tenable, CVE-2026-109619 can also leak passwords and tokens without code execution. I wrote about the chain in PHP2Shell Two PHP Core RCEs Need Patch and Restart Now. The flaws are in the interpreter itself, so any request that reaches PHP can trigger the path before your app validates input, especially with mod_php.

How do I work with you?

I work in two modes. Solo, I take your repository, run the upgrade in a branch, fix the breaking changes, update dependencies, and return a tested pull request plus deployment notes. With your team, I join as an extra pair of hands for the week of the upgrade, pairing on the changes your team owns so knowledge stays with you.

In both modes I inventory versions per environment, choose the smallest fixed version, run the upgrade in a branch, fix code and dependencies, run tests and manual flows, update CI images, and restart workers in staging before production. I then rotate any secrets CVE-2026-109619 could have disclosed.

What do I need from you to start fast?

If you can share these five things, I can give you a time and cost estimate the same day you email.

  • Repository access or a zipped project, plus composer.json and composer.lock
  • Current PHP version per environment and how PHP is run (php-fpm, mod_php, FrankenPHP, LiteSpeed)
  • Hosting details (bare metal, VPS, Docker, managed WordPress host)
  • Critical flows to keep green (checkout, login, webhooks, cron)
  • A contact on your team for decisions on dependency pins

If you are not sure about any of these, send what you have. I can inventory the rest.

What if you need a team, not just one person?

I can help with that as well. I have a small network of engineers I have worked with across Shopify and infra projects, and I can bring in one to two additional people for a week for larger codebases or for monorepos that need parallel fixes. You work with me as the point of contact, and I stay responsible for the upgrade staying within the scope we agree on.

At Krova Cloud I run isolated microVMs for build workloads, which is the same disposable environment I use to test PHP upgrades safely.

What will you get at the end?

You will get a branch that runs on a fixed PHP version, a tested deployment plan with worker restarts, updated CI images, and a short handover note on what changed.

According to Google Cloud, distributions got the patches in advance. According to CISA, patching is required immediately. The remaining work is the version move for projects that cannot patch in place.

How do I reach you?

Email me at bhadanirohit1@gmail.com. Put PHP upgrade in the subject and include your current PHP version and hosting type. I will reply the same day with next steps and a fixed estimate.

I am prioritizing projects that are still on 7.4, 8.0 and 8.1 because those branches have no official binary fix and are at highest risk. If your project is already on 8.2 or 8.3 but behind the fixed patch, I can still handle the patch plus restart in a single session.

According to BleepingComputer, the window for internet wide exploitation is open. The fix is a version upgrade plus a restart. I can do the upgrade for you as soon as possible.

FAQ

Can you handle WordPress, Drupal, Magento and Laravel?

Yes. All of them run on PHP. I have handled WordPress and Magento upgrades where the PHP pool also serves the storefront, and Laravel services that share the same host. The steps are the same: branch, upgrade, fix breaking changes, test critical flows, restart workers.

Will the upgrade break my plugins or extensions?

Some will need updates. I audit composer dependencies for PHP version constraints and for abandoned packages, and I update or replace the pins that block the move. That audit is part of the estimate.

Do I need downtime?

The branch work needs no downtime. The production switch needs a short worker restart. For php-fpm that is systemctl restart php8.3-fpm or your equivalent. For mod_php that is an Apache restart. I schedule that with you and verify the worker age after.
