Privacy Policy
What data Debugly collects, why, and how to get rid of it.

This policy explains what data debugly.dev collects, why it is collected, who it is shared with, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read rather than to satisfy a checkbox.
Debugly is operated by Rohit Bhadani, based in Surat, Gujarat, India. For any privacy question, email [email protected].
The short version
Reading this site anonymously collects almost nothing: an aggregate page view count with no cookie attached. If you subscribe to the newsletter, I store your email address. If you leave a comment, I store what you typed and the name you gave. If advertising is enabled in future, third party ad providers will set their own cookies and that is disclosed below.
I do not sell your data. There is nobody to sell it to and I would not want to.
What is collected
Analytics
Debugly uses Ghost's built in web analytics, which records page views, referrer, and rough country level location. It does not set tracking cookies and does not build a profile of you across sites. The data is aggregate and I use it for one purpose: seeing which posts people actually find useful so I write more of those.
Newsletter subscription
If you subscribe, I store your email address and the date you subscribed. Ghost also records whether emails were opened and whether links were clicked, which I use to tell whether a subject line worked.
Your address is used to send new posts. Nothing else. It is never sold, rented, or shared, and you are never added to any other list. Every email has a one click unsubscribe and I do not send win back campaigns.
Comments
If you leave a comment you need a Debugly account, which means an email address and a display name. Your comment text and display name are public. Your email is not.
Server logs
The hosting provider keeps standard access logs including IP address, user agent, and requested URL, retained for a short period for security and abuse prevention. This is ordinary web server operation and applies to essentially every site you visit.
Contact email
If you email me, I keep the email. Obviously. I do not add correspondents to the newsletter list.
Cookies
Right now Debugly sets cookies in only two situations:

Both are strictly functional. There are currently no advertising or cross site tracking cookies on this site.
Advertising
Debugly does not currently display advertising.
I may introduce advertising through Google AdSense at some point, and if that happens this section will be updated before any ad code goes live. When it does:
Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
You can opt out of personalised advertising at any time by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of third party vendor cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info.
Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland will be shown a consent notice before any advertising or non essential cookies are set, and personalised advertising will only run with consent.
Third parties with access to data

Each processes data only to provide its service. I do not share your information with anyone else.
Your rights
Wherever you are, you can ask me to:
- Tell you what data I hold about you
- Correct anything inaccurate
- Delete your data entirely
- Export your data in a portable format
- Stop processing it for a given purpose
Under GDPR (if you are in the EU or UK) and the CCPA and CPRA (if you are in California) these are legal rights, and I honour them regardless of where you happen to live. Email [email protected] and I will action it within thirty days, usually much sooner.
I have never received a request to sell personal information, and I would refuse it.
Data retention
Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe, then removed within thirty days. Comments stay until you ask for removal. Analytics data is aggregate and not tied to you. Server logs rotate on the host's schedule, typically under thirty days.
Children
This site is aimed at professional software developers and is not directed at children under 13. I do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has submitted information, email me and I will delete it.
External links
Posts link to documentation, GitHub issues, and other people's writing. Those sites have their own privacy policies and I have no control over them. Linking to a site is not an endorsement of how it handles your data.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the date at the top will update and, for anything significant, I will note it in the newsletter. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised policy.
